This beautiful Pedro Ruiz's piece was performed by Accent Dance NYC at its performance as part of First Look: Echoes Between Us + Other Dances. Inspired by the music of John Philip Sousa, So Proudly We Hail is an evocation and celebration of American culture and the uniquely American immigrant experience. The work was originally created for the New Jersey Ballet in collaboration with the West Point military band.
Notably, the artists performing in the piece are from Colombia (Elisa Toro Franky) and Guatemala (Kevin Ortiz). Pedro Ruiz is from Cuba.
